A STUNNING START TO 2012 FOR CEDAR HALL SPONSORED ATHLETES

Our s
ponsored athlete Hayley Mclean poses happily for the cameras with
hurdling superstar Andy Turner, following her victory in the 60mH on 21st January 2012 at the Southern Championships at Lea Valley.
Wearing her gold medal and Cedar Hall top with pride (right),Hayley has had a stunning start to the 2012 season. She also won silver in the Long Jump at the same competition.
There was success for the other Cedar Hall sponsored athletes too! Olympic hopeful Gianni Frankis won GOLD at 60mH with a Championship record; Joshua Olawore in his first season at U20 (and aged just 16!) took silver in the Long Jump. Sophie Riches was a brilliant second in the Inter Girls' Cross Country at Essex Schools Cross Country Championships. We wish all our talented athletes the very best for 2012, especially Gianni Frankis who has a very real chance of selection for GB at the London Olympics

CEDAR HALL AWARDS TREATMENT SPONSORSHIP TO YOUNG CHAMPION
Hot on the heels of the sponsorship award to Gianni Frankis, Cedar Hall Clinic has awarded its fourth
treatment sponsorship to champion athlete Joshua Olawore. Nationally Joshua won the English Schools Intermediate Boys’ Octathlon Championships at Exeter on 17th & 18th September winning three of the eight individuals events (long jump, 100m hurdles and shot) and setting a new club record points total of 5200 points which ranks him number 1 in the UK this year.
By comparison that is almost on a par with Britain’s last great international combined event athlete Dean Macey who scored 5311 points at the same age.
In August at the England Athletics championships at Bedford Joshua won the long jump with a new personal best and club record of 7.20m, and at the same championships he also won a bronze medal in the 100m hurdles in another personal best & club record. Indoors last winter he won a silver medal at triple jump in the National Under 17 championships and was fourth in the 60m hurdles event.
At County & Regional Joshua won indoor titles at 60m hurdles & long jump, and followed up with county outdoor titles at 100m hurdles and long jump, and Essex Schools title at Triple Jump. Joshua is a potential Great Britain international athlete and has been nominated for an Essex Sports Award 2011. This would provide added incentive for him to work hard towards the next level of achievement at U20 (Junior Level).
Coached by Tony Benton and Trevor Wells, 16 year old Joshua is a member of Havering Mayesbrook Athletic Club and lives in Thurrock.

LOCAL ATHLETE AWARDED FULL TREATMENT SPONSORSHIP
Cedar Hall Clinic recent winners of a Lloyds TSB community award, is sponsoring young elite athlete and prospective Olympian Georgia Atkins, the current English Schools Senior Girls’ Champion at 100m hurdles.
Cedar Hall specialises in osteopathy, sports injury, sports massage and rehabilitation with all practitioners having a background in various sports and fitness activities. The sponsorship will cover all aspects of Georgia’s therapeutic needs as she works towards the 2016 Olympics, including regular maintenance massage with our sports injuries and rehabilitation specialist, Kimberley Hughes, which would assist her recovery from an ever increasing training load and allow her to stay injury free and continue to compete at high levels. She will also have an osteopath and podiatrist available to meet all of her treatment needs. Currently competing in the Under 20 age group, Georgia, who lives in Rochford and is a member of Chelmsford AC, is targeting competing in the European Junior Championships this year.
Sara Lovett, a director and senior osteopath at Cedar Hall Clinic is enthusiastic about the sponsorship and hopes it will inspire other clinics to volunteer similar services. “Cedar Hall has always been committed to working within the local community, we visit schools, hold free events at the clinic, the most recent being a question and answer session about osteoporosis and we are proud to be associated with Little Havens Hospice, offering free treatments to parents of sick children. We have already started working with Georgia and her coach Steve Mitchell and look forward to a long association”.
Fellow director Jacki Milne is equally enthusiastic. “We chose Georgia from a short list drawn up by Essex Athletics Network and the entire team of practitioners at Cedar Hall are committed to this project. We understand how difficult it can be for young athletes to get sponsorships of any kind and are all happy to be able to support Georgia in this way”.
She is also an Ambassador for 2011-2012 for the Chelmsford Sports Ambassador Scheme.
Update September 2011 - An outstanding year for Georgia despite injury and all important A levels. She performed exceedingly well throughout the season culminating in a stunning win at the English Schools Athletic Championships at 110m hurdles! With superior A level results, Georgia has now begun a degree course at Birmingham University. Good luck Georgia!
